Penn State hired Matt Campbell as head coach following James Franklin departure

Penn State hired Matt Campbell as its new head football coach on December 5. The program initiated a coaching search after firing James Franklin on October 12 following losses against UCLA and Northwestern. Before securing Campbell, Penn State pursued BYU coach Kalani Sitake, who eventually signed a contract extension to remain with the Cougars. Other coaching candidates including Tosh Lupoi, Will Stein, Jon Sumrall, and Bob Chesney accepted positions elsewhere during the search. Campbell leaves Iowa State, where he maintained a 72-55 record and earned three Big 12 Coach of the Year honors.
