Penn State sparks public criticism after unveiling Paterno football exhibit

Penn State Athletics and the Penn State All-Sports Museum announced the opening of the Paterno Family Football Experience Room. Scheduled to open to the public on Thursday, Sept. 3, the interactive display features an exhibit dedicated to former head coach Joe Paterno. The collection includes his original office desk, workspace, and a timeline documenting his six-decade tenure at the university. The announcement has drawn sharp criticism from some fans due to the coach’s association with the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal. Following the 2011 arrest of Sandusky, who was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse, Paterno was fired after questions arose regarding his handling of reported abuse allegations. The university previously removed a statue of the coach from the stadium grounds.
