Penner Sports Group considers increasing ownership stake in Colorado Rockies

Dick and Charlie Monfort are reportedly in discussions to sell an additional 35 percent of the Colorado Rockies to the Penner Sports Group. This transaction would provide the Penner Sports Group with a 75 percent majority stake in the franchise. The Penner Sports Group first acquired a 40 percent share of the club in April. Under the proposed terms of the deal, the Monforts would retain approximately 20 percent of the team as minority owners. Sources cited in the Denver Gazette indicate that the ownership transition is intended to occur if Major League Baseball returns in 2027. This development follows recent reports that Stan Kroenke pursued a purchase of the Colorado Rockies before ultimately acquiring the Angels.
