Pensacola area schools open 2026-27 golf season and begin weekly athlete voting

High school sports activity in Escambia and Santa Rosa County continues with the official start of the golf season and ongoing fall competition. On the course, Tate opened its season with a win against Jay and Escambia, while Pensacola Catholic secured a quad victory over Pace, Gulf Breeze, and Milton. Jay's golf team placed second in a tri-match featuring Baker and Central. Volleyball programs remain active as well, with Gulf Breeze carrying an 8-1 record and both Tate and Pensacola Catholic holding undefeated status. Local cross country teams also participated in the Pine Forest Eagle Invitational, where Navarre and Pensacola Christian earned third-place finishes in their respective divisions. The Pensacola News Journal has opened public polls for the Florida Power & Light Girls and Boys Athlete of the Week honors, with voting for both awards scheduled to close at 11 a.m. Saturday.
