Philadelphia Eagles face Washington Commanders in 2026 season opener

The Philadelphia Eagles prepare for their 2026 season debut this Sunday against the Washington Commanders. This game follows a disappointing conclusion to the previous campaign for Philadelphia, which ended with a playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The team enters this matchup under the direction of new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Observers expect the Eagles to prioritize the run game, with Saquon Barkley frequently cited as a key contributor against Washington. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia defensive front faces a Commanders offensive line described as weakened. A victory would extend the streak of head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, who have remained undefeated in season openers since 2021. The game serves as a test for the revamped Philadelphia offense to demonstrate progress under Mannion.
