The Philadelphia Phillies announced the release of outfielder Dylan Carlson prior to their series opener against the Detroit Tigers on Friday evening. Carlson, who had been playing for the team's Triple-A affiliate, Lehigh Valley IronPigs, did not appear in any games for the Phillies. The 27-year-old was picked in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft and has played for several MLB teams over seven seasons, including the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs. He struggled at the plate this season, hitting.181 with a.614 OPS across 40 games in Triple-A. Following the release, the Phillies aim to solidify their second-place standing in the National League East, entering the matchup with a record of 52-42.
