Phillies hire Peter Fatse as hitting coach ahead of 2027 season

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced the hiring of Peter Fatse as their new hitting coach, effective immediately. Fatse previously served as the hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox until April 2026, following a coaching staff overhaul. His tenure with the Red Sox saw mixed offensive results, with the team ranking 14th in wRC+ from 2022 to 2025, despite developing some hitters like Tyler O'Neill and Ceddanne Rafaela. There is uncertainty regarding the roles of current assistants Edwar Gonzalez and Rafael Pena, as Fatse takes the lead in the batting department. He has ties to former Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who recently rejected the Phillies' offer for a managerial position, raising questions about the potential implications of this connection.
