The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly in contract talks with ex-Yankees All-Star pitcher Nestor Cortes. As the 2026 MLB season progresses, the Phillies seek to bolster their pitching staff following a quiet trade deadline that did not yield a starting pitcher. Cortes, who had a rocky 2025 season and underwent arm surgery, is working back from injury and could fill various roles on the team. The potential signing would provide the Phillies with depth, especially as they aim for postseason success. Next steps include finalizing a contract and making space on the roster for Cortes.
- •Cortes is a 31-year-old left-handed pitcher with All-Star experience.
- •He struggled last season, recording a 9.00 ERA with Milwaukee.
- •The Phillies currently have a five-man rotation but may consider a six-man format.
- •Cortes may serve as a long reliever or a starter if needed.
- •Negotiations are in progress to finalize his contract with the Phillies.
