San Antonio photographer Ron Cortes earned recognition for his image of Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama, which serves as the cover for the NBA 2K27 video game. The photograph depicts Wembanyama celebrating with teammates after he hit a game-winning fadeaway against the Phoenix Suns on March 19. This shot secured the Spurs their first playoff appearance in six years. While Cortes has spent over 40 years in professional photojournalism and earned a Pulitzer Prize, this project marks the first time a Spurs player has appeared on an NBA 2K cover.
