Pirates activate Oneil Cruz from injured list, option Ronny Simon to Triple-A

The Pittsburgh Pirates have activated center fielder Oneil Cruz from the injured list as they host the Detroit Tigers on August 17. Cruz has not played since June 7 due to two hand fractures but will not be in the starting lineup for this game. He has struggled in rehab with a.136 batting average over six games. In response, utility player Ronny Simon has been optioned to Triple-A after appearing in just nine games for the Pirates. Pittsburgh is currently fourth in the NL Central with a record of 61-65, having won three of their last four games but only 4-8 in their last 12 contests.
