Pirates expand rosters and add Christian Bethancourt ahead of Tuesday game

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled left-handed pitcher Brandon Eisert and selected catcher Christian Bethancourt to the major league roster on September 1. The moves align with the league-wide expansion of active rosters from 26 to 28 players for the month. Bethancourt, who was acquired from the Yankees on August 19, joins the active squad after serving on the taxi squad. To clear a spot for Bethancourt on the 40-man roster, the organization transferred catcher and first baseman Endy Rodríguez to the 60-day injured list. Rodríguez underwent surgery on August 26 to address a left hip labrum injury. The additions come as Pittsburgh prepares for a contest against the San Francisco Giants scheduled for Tuesday night.
