Pirates release Marcell Ozuna and promote Ronny Simon

The Pittsburgh Pirates have released designated hitter Marcell Ozuna after a disappointing season. Signed to a one-year, $12 million contract, Ozuna batted just.203 with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 70 games. The Pirates struggled with him in the lineup, going 28-42 while he played. Ronny Simon has been called up from Triple-A to take his place. Simon has performed well in the minor leagues this season, hitting.330 with seven home runs and 63 RBI in 99 games. The Pirates are one game below.500 as they compete for a playoff spot.
