Pirates struggle in series opener against Nationals, Keller allows three home runs

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Washington Nationals 9-5 on July 3 in the first game of a three-game series. Mitch Keller, with a record now at 6-6, gave up three home runs during the game, including one by Luis García Jr. in the first inning and another by Daylen Lile in the second. The Pirates were unable to mount a significant offense until late in the game, ending their chances to recover. The second game of the series is scheduled for July 4.
