Pittsburgh Pirates sign Jose Herrera to a minor-league contract

The Pittsburgh Pirates added catching depth to the organization on Wednesday by signing Jose Herrera to a minor-league contract. Herrera, 29, spent four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2022 to 2025. Over 187 career games, he has recorded a.200 batting average with three home runs and 42 RBIs. The move follows the team's decision to select the contract of Christian Bethancourt. The Pirates are currently managing a depth shortage at the position following hip surgery for Endy Rodriguez. Herrera is expected to provide organizational support at Triple-A Indianapolis.
