Pittsburgh Steelers release wide receiver Cornell Powell during roster cuts

The Pittsburgh Steelers released wide receiver Cornell Powell as part of the team's move to reach the NFL 53-man roster limit. Powell had signed with the organization on August 10, marking a return to a franchise that previously carried him on the practice squad during the 2025 season. His professional tenure includes time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Houston Texans. Most recently, Powell played for the DC Defenders, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards during the 2026 UFL season. A former Clemson standout, he was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has earned two Super Bowl rings. He is now an unrestricted free agent available for other NFL teams to sign.
