Poll reveals high number of parents reconsidering kids' sports participation

A Harris Poll commissioned by Good Sports, released on September 17, shows that 68% of parents with children in sports have considered withdrawing them due to costs. Among those, 26% identified financial sustainability as their primary concern, surpassing worries about injuries and enjoyment. Rising expenses have been noted, with parents expressing fears about affording sports in the coming year, particularly with the increase in private clubs and travel teams, which they believe are restricting access for many youths. The survey indicated that 67% of parents have seen a decline in low-cost sports options over the past five years. Good Sports co-founder Christy Keswick highlighted the financial strain across various family demographics, noting an urgent need for addressing affordability in youth sports.
