Premier League referee Anthony Taylor retires after 16 years

Anthony Taylor, a veteran referee in the Premier League, has announced his immediate retirement following a 16-year career at the top level of English football. The 47-year-old's final match was the World Cup last-16 clash between Portugal and Spain. Taylor officiated 831 matches throughout his career, including 432 in the Premier League and all major domestic cup finals. He had also been selected to referee at two World Cups and served on the FIFA international list for 14 years. Taylor cited the immense pressure and scrutiny of refereeing at elite levels as key factors in his decision to retire.
