Principality Stadium installs over 3,000 solar panels to save energy costs

The Welsh Rugby Union has completed installation of 3,296 solar panels on Principality Stadium’s roof, which is the largest solar project at a UK sports venue. This £1 million investment is expected to save between £300,000 and £400,000 annually in energy costs. The initiative was described as beneficial for both financial and environmental reasons. The solar panels began generating electricity in February and allowed the stadium to operate off-grid during a recent heatwave. The WRU plans to reinvest the savings into Welsh rugby, potentially recovering the costs within two to three years.
