Pro Football Hall of Fame overhauls voting and committee structure

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced significant changes to its selection process following a two-and-a-half-year review. The updated bylaws reduce the voting committee from 50 members to 28, transitioning from a geographically based system with one representative per NFL team to a panel consisting of 27 at-large selectors and one Pro Football Writers Association representative. Additionally, the Hall of Fame eliminated the separate seniors category, merging all retired players into a single pool regardless of their retirement date. The changes follow the 2026 election cycle in which Bill Belichick failed to secure induction in his first year of eligibility. Future classes will consist of 13 players, one coach, and one contributor selected by subcommittees. The organization also reinstated in-person selection meetings to be held prior to Super Bowl week and mandated that a single outside presenter represent all candidates to minimize potential bias.
