On August 21, a Toronto media personality proposed that the Montreal Canadiens should attempt to acquire Penguins star Sidney Crosby. Despite Crosby's long-standing ties to Pittsburgh, rumors have previously linked him to Montreal. Crosby is under contract for one more season at a reduced salary of $8.7 million. Insider Josh Yohe indicated that Crosby may soon negotiate a contract extension to remain with the Penguins, similar to a deal signed prior to the 2024-25 training camp. Crosby has scored 654 goals and delivered 1,107 assists in 1,420 career games with the Penguins.
