PWHL Detroit signs defenseman Sydney Bard ahead of new season

PWHL Detroit has signed defenseman Sydney Bard to a two-year contract as the team prepares for its inaugural 2026-27 season. Bard, who recorded two assists in 30 games with the Vancouver Goldeneyes last season, is the first addition during Phase 3 of the PWHL’s Expansion Player Distribution Process. Previously drafted 22nd overall by the Boston Fleet in 2024, Bard had a notable collegiate career at Colgate University, where she won four ECAC titles and surpassed the 100-point mark. She previously earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2019 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship. Bard is the second defenseman added to the roster, following the acquisition of Cayla Barnes.
