Rafael Devers returns to Fenway, reflects on Red Sox tenure

Rafael Devers showed a flair for the dramatic throughout his entire time with the Red Sox, and it continued in his return to Fenway Park on Friday night.

The Fenway faithful booed Devers each time he stepped into the batter’s box. He was the designated hitter and did not play in the field.

The Giants' Rafael Devers said he didn't want to revisit his up-and-down tenure with the Red Sox on Friday, when he returned to Fenway Park for the first time since being traded to San Francisco 14 months ago.

Devers protested switching positions and criticized the Red Sox front office before being traded to San Francisco.

With a haze of clouds and a light rain falling overhead, Rafael Devers emerged from the visitors' dugout at Fenway Park for the first time on Friday afternoon. After taking a few minutes to sign autographs for fans wearing his San Francisco Giants jersey, and others donned in that of the Boston Red Sox team he wore for eight-plus years prior to his blockbuster trade 14 months ago. Devers said his memories of his time in Boston flowed when he arrived at the ballpark, but so did his desire not to revisit the up-and-down tenure with his former team.
