Ray Childress earns spot on Independence Bowl 50th anniversary team

Texas A&M alumnus Ray Childress is the 18th player named to the Independence Bowl 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. A defensive standout in College Station, Childress appeared in the 1981 Independence Bowl, helping the Aggies hold the Oklahoma State Cowboys to 16 points in a victory. During his collegiate tenure, he recorded 15 sacks in 1983 and earned first-team All-American honors in 1984. He later became a first-round NFL draft pick and a five-time Pro Bowl selection throughout a 12-season professional career. Childress was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010. The Independence Bowl will continue announcing members of the anniversary team weekly, with the top player set for reveal on December 7.
