Rays receive approval for new $2.36 billion ballpark in Tampa

The Tampa Bay Rays have secured formal approval for a new $2.36 billion ballpark after a 5-2 vote from the Hillsborough County Commission. This follows an earlier vote from the Tampa City Council. Groundbreaking is set for later this year at the Hillsborough College’s Dale Mabry Campus, with plans for the stadium to open in 2029. The project aims to enhance the region's appeal and is expected to include a mixed-use development inspired by The Battery in Atlanta. The Rays will cover 63% of the construction costs, a higher percentage compared to recent ballpark projects by other MLB teams.
