Real Betis defeats Real Madrid in LaLiga match

Real Betis secured a 1-0 win against Real Madrid at Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla on September 4, 2026. The match concluded after Kylian Mbappé failed to convert a stoppage-time penalty following a foul on Vinicius Junior by Natan. Real Madrid players unsuccessfully appealed for a retake due to alleged encroachment by Marc Bartra, but referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez allowed the result to stand. Official club outlet Real Madrid Television challenged the ruling, claiming Bartra committed a technical error by entering the box too early. Real Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles successfully saved the penalty after studying the striker's tendencies with coach Toni Doblas before the match.
