Rece Verhoff returns to UNC as starting kicker for 2026 season

Rece Verhoff, who led North Carolina with 77 points in 2025, has announced his return for the 2026 season after being granted an extra year of eligibility. Verhoff, the All-ACC Honorable Mention, originally played his final season last year, but recent changes now allow athletes like him to extend their college careers. He hit 19 of 23 field goal attempts last year, including a long of 57 yards. The Tar Heels also have LSU transfer Aeron Burrell and freshman David Green joining the kicking unit for the upcoming season. Verhoff's presence will be crucial as UNC faces a tougher schedule in 2026, starting with a rematch against TCU on August 29.
