Red Sox consider Cubs' Matt Shaw as trade target before deadline

Summary

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow may reach out to the Chicago Cubs regarding infielder Matt Shaw ahead of the August 3 trade deadline. Shaw, currently lacking a clear position with the Cubs due to the signings of Alex Bregman and Nico Hoerner, could be available as Chicago seeks a starting pitcher. Shaw's contract status, with team control until 2028, makes him an attractive asset for the Red Sox, who have promising pitching prospects to offer in return. Breslow's inquiry could help the Sox bolster their infield and bring Shaw back to Massachusetts.
