Red Sox demote Greg Weissert to Triple-A, call up Raymond Burgos

Summary

The Boston Red Sox have optioned right-handed reliever Greg Weissert to Triple-A Worcester ahead of their game against the Athletics on Friday, August 7. This move follows a taxing 12-inning game against the White Sox, where all eight relievers were used. In Weissert's place, the Sox have called up left-hander Raymond Burgos, who has previously pitched in the majors only once. Weissert led the team with 48 appearances this season but has struggled with consistency. The demotion is expected to provide the team with an emergency multi-inning option in Burgos, who has a 5.63 ERA in Triple-A this season.
