Red Sox fall to Royals at Fenway Park as losing streak reaches three

The Boston Red Sox dropped their third consecutive game Friday night, falling 3-2 to the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park. Boston starter Sonny Gray took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over six innings, moving his record to 17-5. The Royals built a 3-0 lead behind a two-run double from Carter Jensen and an RBI from Salvador Perez. While Mickey Gasper hit a solo home run and Wilyer Abreu added an RBI double in the fifth to trim the deficit, the Red Sox were unable to manufacture a tying run. Boston squandered a late scoring chance in the eighth when Caleb Durbin struck out with a runner on third. The teams play the second game of the series on Saturday with Ranger Suárez scheduled to pitch for Boston.
