Red Sox reliever Justin Slaten likely out for the season

Boston Red Sox reliever Justin Slaten is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to right elbow inflammation. After a month on the injured list, Slaten visited Texas Rangers team physician Dr. Keith Meister, who found degenerative changes in his flexor mass. Interim manager Chad Tracy confirmed Slaten will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection. Slaten has a record of 2-4 with a 4.60 ERA in 36 appearances this year, last pitching on August 12. Meanwhile, left-handed starter Garrett Crochet is making progress in his recovery from injury and could return to action if the team qualifies for the playoffs.
