Red Sox’ Roman Anthony begins rehab assignment with Double-A Portland

Roman Anthony, left fielder for the Red Sox, is set to play in a game for the first time in three-and-a-half months. The 22-year-old will serve as the designated hitter against Reading at Hadlock Field on August 19. Anthony suffered a ligament tear under his right ring finger on May 4 and faced a prolonged recovery, initially expecting a brief stint on the injured list. He resumed hitting earlier this month after nearly nine weeks of rehabilitation, feeling pain-free as he prepares to return to competitive play. Interim manager Chad Tracy has confirmed that Anthony is scheduled for additional play in the coming days.
