The Boston Red Sox have elected to bypass the next scheduled start for pitcher Sonny Gray as he prepares for a potential postseason run. Gray has logged 143.2 innings this season and will receive extra rest instead of taking the mound during the upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners. Interim manager Chad Tracy confirmed the team is evaluating its rotation options for Tuesday, when major league rosters expand, and has not yet determined a replacement starter. Gray, who holds a 16-4 record with a 2.82 ERA, will return to the rotation for the subsequent series against the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox, currently trailing the New York Yankees by 4.0 games, are attempting to secure a Wild Card berth while managing the workload of their veteran arms.
