Red Sox's Taylor Smith remains A's top candidate for baseball operations

The Oakland Athletics are seeking a new head of baseball operations following Sam Fuld's withdrawal from consideration for the role. Fuld's decision comes after earlier reports that he was offered a position. Taylor Smith, currently an executive with the Boston Red Sox, remains a strong candidate. He has a background with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays before joining the Red Sox in 2024. Other potential candidates for the A's position include Mike Rizzo, Mike Groopman, and internal candidate Billy Owens. The A's have seen two candidates decline offers, raising questions about the appeal of the position.
