Red Wings invite six free agents to upcoming NHL rookie tournament

The Detroit Red Wings have invited six free agents to join their 24-player roster for the NHL Rookie Tournament, which begins September 12 at the Belfor Training Center. The event will feature competition from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins. Among the invitees are Haeden Ellis, who recently helped the Kitchener Rangers win the Memorial Cup, and WHL Moose Jaw Warriors captain Brady Ness. Other invited players include Cooper Dennis, Carter Hicks, Michael Dec, and Leo Laschon. These players will join drafted prospects such as Adam Levac for the upcoming event. While a contract offer remains a significant challenge for any individual invitee, the tournament provides these junior and college-committed athletes an opportunity to gain experience within an NHL organization.
