Referee Marcelo de Lima Henrique officiates final match at Clássico-Rei

Marcelo de Lima Henrique concludes his 32-year career as a professional referee this Sunday, September 13. He will officiate the 28th round match of the Brazilian Série B Championship between Ceará and Fortaleza, known as the Clássico-Rei. This derby marks his final appearance on the pitch after a tenure that included 25 years with the Brazilian Football Confederation. Marcelo, 52, previously set a milestone in 2023 as the most experienced referee to officiate a Série A match and reached a total of 1,000 career matches that same year. His history includes officiating international matches during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers and serving on the FIFA panel from 2008 to 2014. The referee stated that ending his long career with one of the most prominent derbies in Brazilian football is a significant final assignment.
