Regional soccer clashes and Ashley White Invitational highlight weekly schedule

High school sports competition in Portage County centers on a series of soccer matchups and cross-country racing this week. Thursday features a pair of Metro Athletic Conference soccer meetings between Field and Roosevelt as both programs contend for league standing. Simultaneously, Cloverleaf faces Streetsboro in girls soccer, renewing a rivalry that has defined the conference tournament title game for three consecutive years. On the volleyball court, Aurora and Kenston square off on Thursday, marking a rematch of last season's regional semifinal. The week of competition concludes Saturday, Sept. 5, with the Ashley White Invitational, which includes participation from Crestwood, Field, Garfield, Southeast, and Streetsboro.
