Regulators approve Sports Alpha Capital investment into Northampton Town

The Independent Football Regulator and the English Football League have approved a proposed shareholding acquisition of Northampton Town by a consortium including former Brazil forward Alexandre Pato. Known as Sports Alpha Capital, the group also includes London-based investment firm Gemcorp Capital. Northampton chairman Kelvin Thomas stated that the regulatory approval represents a significant milestone for the club, which has been in negotiations with the group since April. The club previously reported a pre-tax loss of nearly £3 million and looks to use the investment to become debt-free. While the specific size of the proposed shareholding remains undisclosed, the club plans to announce further details regarding the financial structure once all documentation is finalized. The Cobblers, currently competing in League Two, remain winless in the 2026-27 season following their relegation from League One last year.
