On August 3, WWE Raw concluded with Rey Mysterio approaching Roman Reigns, informing him of his new role as General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA. Reigns appeared surprised but agreed to hear more about Mysterio's position. Speculation among fans has grown regarding potential dates for Reigns to appear in AAA, with August 30's Heatwave and September 11's Triplemania considered, though Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer indicated these might not be the likely shows. Another possible date is the NXT/AAA Worlds Collide on September 26 in Chicago, coinciding with AEW's All Out. Reigns is also scheduled to appear on the September 14 Raw in Mexico City, a day after Triplemania Night Two.

- 5:20 PMCageside Seats — When Raw’s closing scene with Roman Reigns & Rey Mysterio might pay off in AAA
"After Jacob Fatu’s Street Fight victory over Royce Keys, the Aug. 3 Raw closed with a scene of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio approaching WWE World Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief doesn’t bother himself with the innerworkings or WWE’s sub-brands apparently, because Mysterio thinks he’s reminding Reigns that he’s now the General Manager of Lucha Libre AAA, but that’s news to Roman*. Upon learning it, the champ is willing to take a walk with Rey to hear what the GM of the Mexican territory has to say. This is getting VERY interesting ☝️@luchalibreaaa | @WWERomanReigns | @reymysterio pic.twitter.com/5upOsynz19 — WWE (@WWE) August 4, 2026 Many fans brains quickly went into fantasy booking mode… … and to possible dates for Reigns to show up in AAA, for any reason. One of those is when WWE set an AAA event head-to-head against an AEW show, which has become standard practice of late. That was Aug. 30’s Heatwave, which is an NXT show. But it takes place in a town (Edinburg) on the Texas/Mexico border, and could have a significant AAA presence for that reason. Heatwave will also be head-to-head with AEW All In’s return to Wembley Stadium. The other date being talked about online is Night One of this year’s Triplemania, which is set for Fri. Sept. 11 in Las Vegas — and was just moved from a 1,000 seat venue to a 15,000 set one. But on Wrestling Observer Radio overnight, Dave Meltzer said he knows it won’t be either the Edinburg, Texas or Las Vegas shows. Meltzer then went on to speculate about another date, NXT/AAA Worlds Collide in Chicago on Sept. 26. That show is not only on the same date as AEW All Out, it’s in the same city/market: “It could be Chicago because that’s a big one… I figured [CM] Punk would work that show. I didn’t figure Roman would work that show, but they might. And I’m sure Punk will. I’m not sure, but I certainly expect Punk will work the show. Maybe they want Roman to work the show.“ Another interesting data point brought up to me by our own Cain Knight: Reigns is being promoted for the Sept. 14 Raw in Mexico City. That’s the day after Triplemania Night Two at Arena Mexico… In the comments below, you can weigh in on when Roman Reigns will make his AAA debut, if he’ll be wrestling someone, and if so who. And remember, you can always share a more detailed take in The Feed! * Some, including Meltzer, are calling this a burial of AAA. Seems pretty in character for OTC1 to me, though. And less of a deal than the AAA Megachampion being beaten two nights in a row on WWE programming before he faces El Grande Americano at Triplemania in the biggest match AAA can possibly make at the moment.
