Richland County players excel on Day 1 of Division II sectional tourney

The Division II sectional girls tennis tournament began in Shelby with strong performances from Richland County athletes. In singles, Ontario’s Ellie Dawson secured a semifinal spot with two victories, defeating Coralene Cline and Cara Yetzer. Willard’s Phebe Schag also advanced, winning against Maliyah Ligon and Sophie Schuster. The bottom half features an all Richland County semifinal with Madison’s Kylie Carroll facing Shelby’s Courtney Howarth. In doubles, Lexington’s Hannah Remy and Brooklyn Parks along with Madison’s Lyla Walker and Destini Conrad also progressed to the semifinals. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, at Shelby High School.
