Rishabh Pant exited the field during the second Test against Sri Lanka after sustaining a wrist injury on August 23. The injury occurred in the 58th over when a short delivery from Lahiru Kumara struck his wrist. Medical staff attended to him on the field, applying ice and tape, and he later received additional treatment in the dugout. Ravindra Jadeja replaced Pant as India's innings continued. India leads the two-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test by 165 runs.

"Rishabh Pant went for a pull shot but could only glove the ball. He immediately appeared to be in discomfort and held his wrist. The physio quickly came onto the field and applied an ice pack to Pant's wrist to prevent swelling. After a lengthy stoppage, tape was briefly applied to the wrist before being removed. The umpire also checked on Pant before the India batter eventually walked off the field retired hurt.
