Road racer Gary McCoy plans return despite two major accidents

Northern Ireland road racer Gary McCoy intends to return to competition next year following his second major crash in 13 months. McCoy sustained five broken vertebrae and a fractured shoulder blade during a damp-track incident at the Isle of Man TT in June. This follows a 2025 North West 200 accident that resulted in 22 broken bones, a punctured lung, and a brain bleed. The 27-year-old rider stated that his desire to compete in road racing drives his recovery and rehabilitation process. Despite acknowledging the significant physical toll and the personal pressure on his family, McCoy remains committed to the sport. He is currently awaiting further medical scan results regarding his spinal injuries as he prepares for a potential return to the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT circuit.
