Rockets sign Amen Thompson to a five-year, $208 million contract extension

The Houston Rockets secured forward Amen Thompson with a five-year, $208 million rookie-scale extension on Thursday. The deal includes a 10% trade kicker, keeping the 23-year-old under contract as a core member of the team. Thompson finished the 2024-25 season with averages of 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals across 79 starts. His extension comes three years after the Portland Trail Blazers selected Scoot Henderson with the third pick in the NBA draft, one spot before the Rockets chose Thompson. While Henderson has played 158 games for Portland during his first three seasons, Thompson has appeared in 210 contests and earned a First Team All-Defense selection. The Trail Blazers continue to evaluate Henderson’s development as they enter the fourth year of his rookie contract.
