Rockford-area athletes nominated for athlete of the week voting

Nominations for the Rockford Register Star Athlete of the Week for May 25-30 are now open. Nominees include Austin Altangerel from Auburn tennis, who won two matches at the IHSA boys state tournament, and Avery Malcolm from Rockford Christian soccer, who recorded 25 saves in a key game. Other contenders are Braden Monson of Hononegah tennis, who finished in the top 16 at state, and Sydney Musial from Stillman Valley softball, who hit two home runs in a sectional title win. The voting poll is open until noon on Friday, with the winner being recognized for standout performances in their respective sports.
