Rodri, the World Cup Golden Ball winner, is set to undergo surgery for a back injury, with no timetable for his return confirmed. This development presents a major challenge for Manchester City as they prepare for the 2026-27 season under Enzo Maresca. Rodri’s previous injury history had already cast uncertainty on his availability, and the club had been relying on his fitness following his impressive World Cup performances. As City navigates this setback, midfield options like Elliot Anderson, Nico Gonzalez, and Mateo Kovacic may see increased roles at the start of the campaign.
- •Rodri's surgery is imminent with no confirmed recovery timeline.
- •His previous injuries have limited playing time in recent seasons.
- •Enzo Maresca must adapt the squad without Rodri's leadership.
- •Elliot Anderson's recent signing adds depth to City's midfield options.
- •No immediate resolution on Rodri's contract status is expected post-surgery.
