Ronald Araujo joins Liverpool on loan from Barcelona for 2026/27 season

Defender Ronald Araujo signed a one-season loan deal with Liverpool last month after leaving Barcelona. The Uruguay international agreed to a 10 to 20 percent wage reduction to facilitate the move, which includes an option to purchase the player. Manager Andoni Iraola has initiated daily contact with Araujo to monitor his physical and mental preparation as the defender recovers from a calf injury. Araujo is now training at Liverpool and integrating with the squad, including working alongside Virgil van Dijk. The loan serves as a career reset for the center-back, who aims to regain his form after a difficult final stretch at Camp Nou. At the conclusion of the season, Liverpool, Barcelona, and the player will review his status to determine his long-term future.
