Ronald Araujo will miss Uruguay's next two World Cup matches

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is set to miss Uruguay's next two group matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including contests against Cape Verde and Spain. Araujo is still recovering from a calf injury sustained on June 4, prior to joining the national team. He has already missed the opening match against Saudi Arabia and is unlikely to recover in time for the fixture against Spain, where he would have faced several of his Barcelona teammates. Uruguay’s medical staff are focusing on ensuring Araujo is fully fit for the knockout stages, which begin on July 3 or 4, should the team progress.
