Royal Capell wears honorary number two for the UTEP Miners football team

Sophomore receiver Royal Capell now wears the No. 2 jersey for the UTEP Miners, featuring the name Laufenberg on the nameplate. The number serves as an honorary tribute to former tight end Luke Laufenberg, who passed away from leukemia in 2019. UTEP coaching staff selected Capell for the honor, citing his toughness, work ethic, and commitment to the program. The jersey has been awarded annually to an offensive player since 2019, with previous recipients including Justin Garrett and Gavin Hardison. Capell, who transferred to UTEP after playing his freshman season at Oklahoma State, will continue this tradition for the remainder of his eligibility.
