Ruben Prey records strong FIBA World Cup qualification play for Portugal

St. John’s center Ruben Prey averaged 15.0 points and 3.0 rebounds over two recent FIBA World Cup qualification games for Portugal. In an August 28 contest against Spain, he recorded 15 points and three steals in a 95-89 victory. Prey followed that performance with 15 points in a 98-90 loss to Georgia on August 31. The 21-year-old forward is expected to move into a starting role for the Red Storm after serving as a reserve for two seasons. While Portugal remains in contention for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, Prey will be unavailable for the team's remaining four qualification games due to the upcoming college basketball schedule. He previously recorded 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game during his sophomore year at St. John’s.
