The participants plan to begin the challenge at 05:00 BST to reach the final checkpoint in Newcastle before dark. To prepare, the group completed multiple practice runs across the five-leg course and trained three to four times per week. The challenge is named in memory of Denis Rankin, a mountain runner who died during a 2013 fell race.
