Runners prepare for the 90km Denis Rankin Round in the Mournes

Gail Martin, Stuart Martin, and Andy Kennedy are set to compete in the 90km Denis Rankin Round this Saturday in Northern Ireland. The trio of runners from the Lisburn Triathlon Club will attempt to complete the circuit of peaks in the Mourne Mountains within a 24-hour window. The route covers 90km with 6,500m of total ascent. The participants plan to begin the challenge at 05:00 BST to reach the final checkpoint in Newcastle before dark. To prepare, the group completed multiple practice runs across the five-leg course and trained three to four times per week. The challenge is named in memory of Denis Rankin, a mountain runner who died during a 2013 fell race.
