Rusev has been largely absent from WWE television since July, except for a few house shows in Hawaii. He clarified that his absence was not due to dissatisfaction with losing to Je’Von Evans but rather due to injury and illness. Rusev noted that while he suffered numbness in his hand after getting kicked in the head during the match, he also experienced an unrelated illness. He stated that he has been ready to return for two months and is currently waiting for creative direction from WWE.

"Picture is via CJ Perry’s Instagram and unrelated, but made me laugh. Get a copy of Perry’s novel Bulletproof Angel here. | CJ Perry’s Instagram He worked a pair of house shows while WWE was in Hawaii a couple weeks ago, but otherwise Rusev hasn’t worked a match since July. His wife CJ “Lana” Perry already shot down rumors he was upset about losing that bout on Raw to Je’Von Evans, and earlier this week when the couple announced they’re expecting their first child there was no mention of Rusev taking time off for the early months of Perry’s pregnancy. We have an answer from The Bulgarian Brute himself now, thanks to his appearance on TMZ Sports’ Inside the Ring. Rusev confirmed what his wife said about him being upset in the aftermath of his July loss to Evans — if he was, it was because he was hurt during the match. But numbness in his hand wasn’t the only reason Rusev’s been on the sidelines. He also says he was ill, but doesn’t think that was related to anything from the match. “I’ve been out for what? Two, three months or whatnot…. I did get kicked in the head, my hands went numb, felt better, finished the match. Then, I got a little sick after that. Not related — I don’t believe it was related. So I was out for that.” He told Inside The Ring’s hosts that he’s feeling good, and has been for a while. So it seems the bulk of his time off has been “awaiting creative”: “I’ve been ready. I’ve been good for about two months. I’m just waiting to go back to TV.” How much longer do you think Rusev will have to wait? What would you pitch for his return?
